Artist Statement & Biography
‘I believe in creating art that adds beauty back into the Contemporary Art discussion. I make paintings that are concerned with inspiring emotional responses in the viewers, allowing them to be transported into a new world of paint and colour.’
After obtaining her Masters in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute of Art, studying Renaissance art and architecture, Leah decided to paint full-time from her home studio. Since then she has shown and sold her work in numerous art fairs and exhibitions worldwide, curated over 20 art fairs and exhibitions, had two beautiful little boys, renovated 2 properties in London and painted over 100 original artworks most of which have sold to private and corporate clients. She is always working on new paintings and commissions for individuals, corporate clients and interior designers and is currently project managing the renovation of her Surrey property whilst raising her two boys with her husband, Oliver. She continues to exhibit regularly at art fairs and exhibitions around London and the UK.
Her first abstract paintings incorporated papers, items, and objects from everyday life with beautiful bought papers and acrylic paint with the intentions of capturing the essence of human emotions. To increase the durability and lifespan of her paintings, she uses multiple layers of polyurethane on top of the collaged surfaces, which seal and add a shiny top layer to the paintings. Her newest pieces however now use many layers of acrylic and emulsion paint to try and capture the essence of happiness and are inspired by the natural beauty around her new home studio in Surrey, England.
After receiving her MA from the Courtauld in 2010, Leah realised there was lack of opportunities for new artists to exhibit affordably in London which lead her to create the New Artist Fair with her husband and business partner, Oliver. Following the success of this highly popular annual event, Leah and Oliver then went on to launch the Talented Art Fair in 2017 for professional artists and amateur artists who have established themselves in their respective genres. Here they have a physical platform to meet with and sell to their ever-growing list of clients.
As a professional artist herself, represented by DegreeArt and a London interior design firm Dare Interiors, Leah now also liases with artists, buyers, and property developers to find the right art for every space whether it is made by herself or commissioned by one of the many artists who have exhibited alongside her at the fairs.
The collaboration with Fraser and Oliver to organise and run the Sussex Art Fairs will hopefully fulfil another passion of Leah’s which is to furnish as many homes as possible with original, affordable and investible artwork. She is looking forward to bringing her experience and knowledge of organising large-scale art events and matching art with buyers to a bright new demographic in the Sussex counties proving anyone can be an art collector and invest in art they love. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you would like her help in creating or finding that perfect piece of art for your home or office from the fair!
